Ingredients
I:
1 C flour
1/2 C butter
1 1/2 Tbs. water
Mix the
dough like a pie crust, cutting in the butter with a pastry blender
until the mixture resembles small pea-sized pieces. Gradually add
the water while mixing with a fork until dough holds loosely together. Divide
the dough into two balls. On a greased cookie sheet, pat or roll each portion
of the dough into a rectangle about 3 inches wide and 13 inches long.
Ingredients
II:
1 C water
1/2 C butter
1 C flour
3 eggs
1 Tbs. almond extract
In a 2 quart
sauce pan, heat the water and butter to boiling. Remove from heat
and stir in the flour. Then, using a wooden spoon or heat resistant
spatula, add the eggs one at a time, beating very well between each addition.
Add the almond flavoring. Spread on top of the two crusts, covering
each crust completely. Bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes and frost
when cool.
Frosting:
1 C powdered sugar
1 Tbs. butter
about 1 Tbs. cream or milk - enough to make a spreadable consistency
1/4 tsp almond extract (or to taste)
Cut
crosswise into pieces about 1 1/2" wide. Decorate each slice
with 1/4 maraschino cherry.
