2 large cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp dried mint, crumbled
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp ground allspice
pinch of cinnamon
1 lb ground lamb
1 cup fine fresh bread crumbs
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 cup sesame seeds

Cook onion and garlic until soft over moderately low heat, transfer to a bowl and stir in mint, allspice, salt and cinnamon.  Add lamb, breadcrumbs and egg and combine well.  Form level tablespoons of lamb mixture into 1 1/4” balls arranging on a tray as formed.

Roll meatballs in sesame seeds.  Place on a rack set in a shallow baking pan.  (Can be prepared one day ahead and chilled covered loosely.)  You can bake the meatballs directly on a baking pan.  The bottom of the meatball will just be a bit more brown than the rest.

Preheat oven to 450° F.  Bake meatballs in upper third of oven 8-10 minutes or until golden and just cooked through.  Serve with mint yogurt dip.  Makes about 32 Meatballs

1 garlic clove minced and mashed to a paste with 1/4 tsp salt
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp finely chopped parsley
2 tsp finely chopped fresh mint

Whisk all ingredients together.  Serve as a dipping sauce with meatballs.
